Melbourne Victory's Nick Mrdja has been given a two-match ban for elbowing Sydney FC's Shannon Cole in the head during during last weeks first leg of the Hyundai A League Major Semi-Final and that has thrown the club into a further dilemma.
A few weeks ago the club signed Mrdja under the injury replacement rule from Central Coast Mariners in a bid to boost their front line for both the finals and the Asian Champions League.
The match review panel charged Mrdja on Monday with violent conduct for the incident, slapping the minimum two-week ban on him for such an offence and ruling him out of the second leg of the major semi.
But it could also rule Mrdja out of the grand final should Melbourne qualify directly by beating Sydney FC over the two-legged tie.
However the suspension will not rule Mrdja out of the ACL matches.
