Muscat Ban Upheld

E-mail Print PDF

Melbourne Victory have until late on Thursday to decide if they are going to make a further appeal against a two match suspension initially imposed by the FFA Match Review Panel and confirmed on appeal by the FFA Disciplinary Committee

The veteran defender was banned after the Match Review Panel viewed video footage of an incident where Muscat struck Gold Coast captain Jason Culina late in the first half of the teams spiteful A-League clash at Skilled Park.

The FFA Disciplinary Committee also upheld the five-match ban handed to Gold Coast United defender Steve Pantelidis by the Match Review Panel after being charged with striking Victory striker Robbie Kruse. It is Pantelidis his fourth suspension of the season.

Muscat was charged with serious foul play and appeared in person at FFA headquarters on Wednesday in a bid to have the ban reduced or wiped out.

Muscat's suspension is a double blow for Victory supporters as they have also lost star striker Archie Thompson for the seasons final two matches due to injury. This week Victory meet NQ Fury before finishing the season against Sydney FC for what might be a top two finish
